A Message From Your Music Director

Special thanks to our handbell ringers last Sunday. Several drive great distances to share their passion for music while giving glory to God. Bravo to Sam Calhoun for switching bells to substitute for a missing ringer.  Yes, we could use more ringers, particularly from our congregation.  You will hear them prominently in the December 3 worship featuring additional anthems, violin accompaniment, and bell arrangements.

Though it may seem I am a week behind, I would like to share some interpretations into the text of last Sunday’s anthem, “Jesus Christ, the Apple Tree”. One has to recognize the recurring themes of trees, branches, seeds, and gardens in the Bible.  This text setting from the 18th century is using “the tree of life” as a metaphor for Jesus. Our anthem this Sunday directly quotes the scripture from the present sermon series in a modern setting.

Looking forward to Sunday,

Olivia

Handbells

Handbell Rehearsal, (Wednesdays), 5:00 p.m.

Handbell Choir has begin rehearsing .  Presently, we ring two octaves, but we actually have four octaves of bells.   We can always use extra ringers with note reading experience.  Our ringers are very dedicated and plan to participate in worship monthly.

“The Staff Parish Relations Committee is very pleased to announce that beginning on January 1, 2020, Olivia Huggins will be named the Music Director of St. Paul’s and will permanently take over the responsibilities of directing the chancel choir, the M2P choir and band, and the bell choir, in addition to being our very talented organist. It is wonderful that she is willing to share her considerable talents and training with us as we lose Bob Baxter to retirement, and Chuck Gee as he and Carolyn prepare to move out of the area.

As you know, Olivia has been filling in for Dr. Bob during his illness. We would like you to join us in thanking Olivia for all her hard work the last two months and in congratulating her on her new position as Music Director.”

Chancel Choir – 8:45 AM Traditional Service

It is the mission of St. Paul’s Waccamaw Chancel Choir to glorify God by enhancing the Traditional Worship Service. This is being done by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, leading the congregation in worship and performing the finest quality of sacred music.

The Chancel Choir is conducted by  Olivia Huggins, accompanist and sings for the 8:45am service each Sunday and for special services. The choir gives two major concerts each year, assisted by a string ensemble and soloists.

The  voiced Chancel Choir consists of adults, young and old, who perform some of the world’s finest choral literature. Rehearsals are each Wednesday at 7:15 pm in the music room located in the Christian Life Center. No auditions are required but some previous choral experience would be helpful.

Made to Praise – 11am Celebration service

Our 11AM Celebration Service is a wonderful service focused on praise and worship. Our Celebration Team is called “Made to Praise”. Through music, we prepare our hearts for worship of our Savior Jesus Christ. We rehearse Wednesday evenings from 6pm-7:15pm in the sanctuary and Sunday mornings at 10am.
